The Cactus and Succulent Society of New Zealand is dedicated to growing, studying and sharing of cactus and other succulent plants.

Formed in 1948 , it now has 450 members in a network of 11 branches.

The Phyllis Bruce Award of Merit recipients and Life members of the CSSNZ.


Benefits of membership of CSSNZ

Members receive a quarterly journal containing articles from local and overseas cactus and succulent growers and writers.

Members can attend the Conference, hosted by different branch each year. Hawkes Bay branch 2009 AGM/Conference

Other Benefits include:

  • Access to local branches and it's wealth of knowledge at "grass-roots" level. A warm welcome at any branch meeting and meeting new friends.
  • Attending talks or slide shows at branch meetings. Online photos.
  • Advice on cultivation like soil mixes, potting, watering, pesticides etc.

  • Help in buying or obtaining further cactus and succulents.
  • Maybe cheaper pots, potting mixes, fertilisers and insecticides through bulk buying by the branch.
  • Borrowing books from branch Libraries.
  • Participating in cactus crawls, bus trips, dinners, plant shows etc put on by your branch.
  • Buying seed from the NZ Society Seed Bank.
