Cultivation

adenium

In summer they can tolerate temperatures up to 30°C, and in winter they tolerate temperatures down to 10°C if dry.
Good light is needed all year round, they can be grown in partial shade outdoors in summer.
Water similarly as for cactus and Pachypodium, allow the plant to dry between waterings. The base of the stem may become soft and a bit wrinkly when the plant is too dry and requires watering. Increase watering when plants are in flower or actively growing in summer. Decrease watering in winter. Root rot can occur when the plant is kept too cold or is overwatered especially in winter.
Leaf drop in winter is normal, it is a sign to keep the soil mixture drier, as metabolism slows down.
Branching can be forced by pinching out the top.
